You proberly have installed Windows many times on your computer, or someone else did this for you.
But did you know, installing Linux is over 9000 times easier than installing Windows?
Like, don't care what CD you are using, almost every distro has every language.
Linux automaticly detects you are using a desktop or a laptop.
And, of course, you don't need any serial, crack or however! :D
Let's start!

As soon as you boot your live-cd, it will open a language menu, choose your language!

Choose "Start Ubuntu without installing".
This will load the Linux Kernel.

It will take a few minutes to boot the system, since you start up the OS from your CD.
So don't panic if it takes to long (like I did with my first time with Linux Mint 4.0).

The OS is now usable.
Feel free to play around with it before installing.
This Live-CD gives you freedom to look around, and it can even act like a proxy server on internet!

Well, it's time to install it on your hard disk.
Choose your language (again).

Choose your timezone.
Note that the clock is already like it's in the BIOS, or on your previous installation (mostly Windows :P).

Put in your serial. :P
Just kidding!
Here you have to choose your keyboard layout.
You most likely don't need to set this, since the most distro's automaticly detects your keyboard.

On an empty hard disk, you can only choose for full installation.
If there is already another OS installed, you can make a dual-boot partition, like Ubuntu and Windows Vista together.

Just typ in your name.
It will automaticly typ in the login name and computername for you.
Like, if you typ in John Garbonade, it will be (john_garbonade, john_garbonade-laptop/desktop).
And also typ in your password (in Linux, you MUST use a password).

Just a confirmation.
Just ingore it if you know sure what you were doing.

It will now install on your hard disk.
BEWARE!
YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR DATA AFTER THE INSTALLATION, SO BE SURE YOU HAVE MADE A BACK-UP OF YOUR DOCUMENTS, PHOTO'S AND OTHER THINGS, NO .EXE!

Your installation has completed!
Click Reboot.

It will shut down like this.

It will now open your CD/DVD drive.
Take out your CD and press enter.

The first thing you will see, is the GRUB loader.
Even through it says you have to press enter, don't do that!
It will now boot in no time!

Now login with your account, the one you made during the installation.
This is how it works:
Login name: david (ENTER)
Password: * (ENTER)

And Ubuntu has been started from your hard disk!
As you can see, installing Ubuntu is very easy.
And you will also get a stable, safe, full, userfriendly and totally free OS in return!
