Gericom Hi everyone. I am here to present you a brand new Mario Kart hacking utility: Mario Kart Toolbox (MKToolbox). It currently only supports MKDS, but I might implement support for MK7 aswell.

A new version of Mario Kart Tool Box has recently been released.
Changes, and additions:
-2D Editing now works 100%, Check Points can be made in 2D mode as well.
-A fix that adds CPOI distance info upon pressing the save button, fixing most issues with CPU rubber banding being a bit broken in CTs.
-A built in ARM 9 Editor that allows you to change the music played on any course by changing the music slot used there.
-Multiple other thing fixes, and changes.

Yawshi Uh I know this tool is more of a viewer but would it be possible for you to implement the ability to export NSBMDs as .dae (including Vertex Colors, Bones etc.)?

Jesse Or import .dae to NSBMD? I do not really like the maya whateverversion thing and such. I mean I hope it wouldn't be much work (otherwise I feel somehow forced to make a program myself (self guilt))

why do I have to chose between a program which isn't even worth mentioning for 3d modelling and a program which I have to download some vague version and plugins for which most likely are not going to work this fantastic on my computer. Also many GigaBytes.

They sound like weak arguments but they are actually really good. I don't want to go through the trouble of importing it in maya and fix everything every time I want to test the track.

I still don't understand you. Routes, Itempoints and Enemypoints already have lines. When selecting a specific route or point, it gets a different color.

1. It does not make the number of triangles go down. Before the ds stores the triangle details in it's geometry memory, it splits the tristrips.
2. It can, however, prevent slowdowns for a bit, because there is less data to send to the geometry engine.
3. When using the official tools, tristrips are used by default. MKDSCM does not use them, but I will be trying to implement this in the NSBMD generator of MKToolbox.

They will co-exist. MKToolbox is completely mario kart oriented, while EFE, combined with the right plugin, can open every file.

Gericom I have uploaded an early beta of MKToolbox, so you can already try it out. Currently you can only open full roms (eu and us). Later on it is going to support rom folders and independent carc files aswell. In this beta, you can not edit yet.

MKGirlism It's a very decent start, I like how you made it easy to use, this time.
Any chance you will implement Support for MK7's ROMFS, or even MK7's CIA/CCI/3DS Files?
Either way, that would skip many steps for Hackers, and it'll save a lot of headaches to the End Users.

Jorden I like the tool... Although I have several suggestions..

1. Firstly the UI has a good start... However, I'd like to suggest this layout: http://i.imgur.com/syxcABD.png

I'd think it be more user friendly, efficient than the current one. Also I sort of dislike the fact that I half to close a window to switch to a different course. I'm sure that there might be other people that

2. One option that I enjoyed in MKDSCM was the option to view certain parts in the NKM...

3. I'm sure this will happen in the future, but I think the 2D view of the NSBMD would serve useful when mapping...

Good start overall in the beta, just several options that I hope to see implemented.

Arctus 64 I really like the minimap generator so far, and the 3D view will be helpful when trying to make multi-leveled battle courses like N64 Double Deck, and when making courses that have overlapping parts, and as for suggestions, I agree with number 2 from Dark Light, as that feature would be useful if you want to work on one part at a time.

Also, I'm guessing that the intro camera testing feature currently only shows the camera's first route from the intro, seeing as it stops before it is supposed to.

SGC Yellow My suggestion would be to map the auto-Y fuction to the Y key on the key board because the scroll wheel tends to get worn out after
so much use and, when useing auto Y in MKDS CM I often accidentaly move things that I don't want to move because my scroll wheel is worn out from using auto-Y so much so I have to press more than once a lot for it to work.

Gericom I just uploaded a new beta of MKToolbox. You can now actually edit stuff. You can generate global maps and (much better quality) course pictures, and you can edit the nkm.

Controls:
By default the 3d editor is in XZ mode, this means you can move point from left to right and back to front. By pressing control, the point will snap to the ground while dragging. With a click on the XY button, you are able to move to point from left to right and top to bottom.

Arctus 64 I have a suggestion for the 2D portion of the editor. It would be pretty nice to have a "Select All" button in case you changed the course model's xz position to fix a problem, and you need a quick way to move all of the points in the nkm, so that it lines back up with the course position.

Platinatic After the main features of this awesome tool are done it would be cool to see some kinda editor for MKDS custom karts within the tool.
a few cool features that would be cool to have in that editor:

-being able to change the size and location of the wheels
-being able to change the location of the character in the kart
-being able to change the pivot point of the kart
-being able to change the hitbox of the kart

After I select my rom it dose nothing else and, the window doesn't even show up. :/

EDIT: Wait I think I know why Mario Kart Tool Box isn't working for me... I took it out of the program folder by mistake instead of the short cut...

SGC Yellow All I want from MKTB is a NSBMD generator that supports triangle strips. Auto-Y, Render Distance and, Fog options, the legend button and, functions to replace and, export files and, i'll be satisfied because i'll no longer have to use MKDSCM or, EFE. Those features are necessities it should be unnecessary to have to go back and, forth between programs so much. Those features should come before any kind of course into viewer because they are vital to making a MKDS CT. The fact that I have to go back and, forth between programs so much is the only reason I don't hack MKDS as much as I used to.

All the switching around MKDSCM, EFE and, MKTB is too time consuming for me all have their own version of then NKM editior and, each one has a feature the other lacks. Take auto-Y for example it's a vital feature that makes placing things at the correct Y position quick and, easy but EFE and, MKTB lack that feature and, MKTB is made to replace MKDSCM. Not to mention EFE doesn't even mainly support MKDS anymore because of MKTB. So why in the world do I need the tool that is supposedly made obsolete by MKTB? Not to mention MKDSCM is very unstable, I hate using it because if I click on some thing like say the OBJI or, the EPOI tab because I need to remove something it crashes, just fucking lovely hours of hard work wasted! I have to switch to EFE or, MKTB to do a simple task like that. That's why GCN Rainbow Road took so long.

MKToolbox has auto-Y. Just press control while dragging.

I uploaded the newer version of MKToolbox, so you should be able to view the course intros completely now. Also, I am not sure if the older version could generate global maps and course pictures, but if not, this version can.

SGC Yellow I think there should be a course picture camera. You take a screen shot of the course with all the object models loaded and, it's already the correct size so you don't have to mess around with it in an image editing program.

SGC Yellow Here's something I don't like about the NSBMD generator in MKDSCM, when it tells you that there is a that a specific texture is repeating too many times it doesn't give you enough specifics to go off of. This is especially annoying when a large amount of triangles use that same texture. Think about this for a second... There's a group of 1000 people one of them has a small cut on their arm and, you have to find him/her and, you are given no specific details only that he has a small cut on his arm and, that he is wearing a blue shirt. But there are 456 other people wearing blue shirts. How are you going to find him in a timely manner without checking every single person for a small cut?

It could at least somehow tell you the location of the triangle that has this problem. It would also be better if it told me what triangles and, textures have this problem all at once instead of just one at a time. This is the very reason why I have to delay the preview video of GCN Wario Colosseum tonight.

Louiskovski Lol, for some reason, every camera i create doesn't work correctly, though every camera worked with an older version.
The camera only works for 2 seconds and then hangs and make absolutely nothing. Ingame, it also hangs, and on DS, it just crashes...?
Does it also crash on you, guys?

Yami could put it on the hack store, but she might have to ask for his permission.
On the other hand, the tool is free, so putting it on the hack store wouldn't affect Gericom at all.

SGC Yellow A New version of MKTB has been released!

New feature include:

Being able to select more than one point at once by holding shift, and clicking on them, and moving them with the left mouse button as usual.

It is now possible to automatically generate IPOI from EPOI, and make EPOI from IPOI, so now you don't have to make both manually.

There is also a new IPOI, and EPOI draw mode, you can simply click on a spot where you want to place an EPOI, or IPOI, and it will simply spawn there,
then you can place the next one, plus you can link EPOI/IPOI together by having an EPOI/IPOI selected, and then holding shift, and clicking the other EPOI/IPOI you want to link it to, this is useful for creating courses with multiple routes.

Key Checkpoints are new a different color from normal checkpoints, as well.
