SGC Yellow Well I completed the GCN Dry Dry Desert model but the face count is still too high for DS standard according to blender it has 3857 faces.
When Ermii and, Yoshidude4 edited GCN Peach Beach I, was amazed by how much more stuff they were able to put in! Any ideas how they did it? I really wan't to know it would be super helpful! (Considering I, just fixed the GCN Rainbow Road model and, I want to release GCN Dry Dry Desert and, GCN Rainbow Road at the same time.)

Well in blender you need to look at the Tris, since that is what counts.

One way of decimating my models is dissolving the vertices. You do this by going into edit mode and vertex selection, select a vertex and press Ctrl+x. This will dissolve the vertex into the closest vertices. a polygon will be created, so you need to select that face in face select mode and press Ctrl+t.

An example, before: 960 triangles

Select vertices > Ctlr + x > select polygon > Ctlr + t

after: 924 triangles

Worst example ever but I hope you get the idea.

There is also a modifier which decimates your whole model on calculations. you can choose how much you want it to be decimated and apply it. But it will give you less influence over what you decimate.

Thank you that helps a bit but when I, try it it erases stuff. :b

SGC Yellow How could I lower this model from 4653 Triangles to 1600 Triangles or, 1700 Triangles? Any ideas?

Here's some screen shots of the model.

Any ideas? The main model it's self is about 1483 Triangles. It's stuff like the king tut statues and, most of the other seanery that makes the Triangle count so damn high. I need 2D versions of some of this shit.

Not to mention all of the king tut statues are worth about 500 Triangles and, the rocks are about worth 80 Triangles and, the pillers are about 40 Triangles.

So going off an educated guess the 5 king tut statues and, the rocks and, the pillers ALL PUT TOGETHER are all worth around 3200 Triangles!

Yes that's what you want, don't you?

I see a lot of stuff which you can decimate in the model, but I hate describing stuff so... try Ctrl + x on the road?

I, cannot decimate the road it's required to be like that. If I decimated the road it would become very bumpy. Anyway i'm canceling GCN Dry Dry Desert because it's a CT that I just cannot do without any help if any one would like to help me with it just ask. I'll keep the model on my hard drive in case.

GCN Rainbow Road on the other hand has 1342 Faces and it will be getting a released very soon! I have worked out all the bugs in the model. It just needs to be textured.

This ones kind of obvious but try and model some of the background stuff in a way that looks normal ingame without having too many extra faces.
This is kinda hard for me to explain but I'll give you and example (a poor one but hey)
Here is the ship that can be seen near the start of GCN Peach Beach:

However upon closer inspection you can see that the ship is actually a lot emptier than it looks:

Despite this it stills looks like a normal ship ingame:

Basically try and model things from an ingame perspective, oh and I should probably say if your using sketchup then be sure to remove the default material because that can really overbloat a model (this can easily be done in Blender or something afterwards since you can just select the material and delete it).

You mean like this?

That lowerd that king tut statue down to 187 faces.

By the way what do you mean by 'the default material can really overbloat a model'?

Ctrl + x, thats what I explained in the first post. Its the same, you get the same. If you want stuff to work on a ds, you'll need to lose triangles, deal with it.

Besides mario kart ds is made to properly work with bumpy roads. Anyway I circled the "eye-candies" which you can do Ctrl + x on.

Yes yes I, know that I, need to lose triangles. That's the entire reason I, started this thread. :P Anyway porting GCN tracks isn't easy. Things like that image of the model you circled things on really helps.

As well as a few screenshots of how it is right now:

That is about all that I think I have done thus far. Also, World 1-1 hasn't received an original design yet, as I have yet to think of one. But, each world's third level(excluding World 1), is planned to be a retro level, from a previous 2D Mario game, but sort of remixed and made to work with what is in NSMB.
That's not lugig from SMB, Luigi has a white shirt and, hat and, green overalls in SMB. :b

The Luigi and, Peach you made in that screen shot are both from "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!" and, that was an awful cartoon. -_- But you know what they say Arctus "That's the way the meatball bounces!"

Alpha Luigi's Mansion Replica (Ambiance 69) ~ Poor quality.
Pre-Alpha GCN Yoshi Circuit Replica (Ambiance 69) ~ Poor quality.
Tick-Tock Clock Early Base (Ambiance 69) ~ Terrible quality.
GCN Rainbow Road (Supergamecube) ~ Crashes on Respawn, and in VS Mode.
GCN Peach Beach (Supergamecube) ~ Crashes on load.

Seriously, test your CT's thoroughly, BEFORE Uploading!
If you have no way to test on an Emulator or DS, ask someone else to check for you.

I'll have you know that I, tested GCN Peach Beach before uploading it. It worked when you downloaded it from the old hack store so it should work now. I, made no changes to it in anyway what-so-ever.

SGC Yellow I think this hack would be better if you didn't hack the karts to look like MKDD karts. I mean what did you do to the dragon fly?? Why dose it look like the flower coatch?? The texture hacked karts look plain ugly, there's not even any proof that the flower coatch or, the heart coatch was even going to be in the game! The beta emblems would be nice but this hack would be MUCH more accurate if you changed the textures back to normal. The tires on the standard kart look good, but the ugly texture hacks on the karts are way to distracting.
I would consider downloading this hack if you changed the textures back, as a matter of fact I'll help you with the music IF you change the textures back I kinda restored the beta figure 8 circuit music and SSEQ_Circuit2.
Thread: Mario Kart DS Pre-alpha Replica

SGC Yellow I debunked the MKDD karts in alpha MKDS theory.
So here it is!
MKDD Karts were never going to be in MKDS the image of the Red Fire in the alpha menu was merely a place holder image for the standard kart Nintendo used due to time constraints. The alpha menu was most likely still in use in the version of MKDS that was shown in the "Mario Kart DS Nintendo DS Gameplay - E3 2004 Demo" video. You don't see the Red Fire or any other MKDD kart in that video and, if there were going to be MKDD karts in MKDS we would have seen more karts than just the Red Fire in the alpha menu's data. So that MKDD Kart's in MKDS Alpha is nothing but a bunch of bull shit. Yes the MKDS Standard Kart looks like the Toad Kart but Nintendo often likes to base a new standard kart off a old one and, toad kart was the only kart that was in MKDD that came close to a standard kart they did the same thing with MK7. MK7's standard Kart is based off MKDS's standard kart and, MK8's standard kart is based off MK7's standard kart.

Sequences like SSEQ_CIRCUIT, SSEQ_CIRCUIT 2, SSEQ_STADIUM, SSEQ_TOWN, SSEQ_CIRCUIT_GC don't play even if you play as Mario but the rest of the music works my theory is that this must be some how connected to the voice's.

The problem is that Ermii's Arm9 Editor dosen't have support for every Music slot in the game. That means I'll have to do the rest with hex editing the problem is I don't know were the Music Data Table is in hex. Why would you import Kiosk Demo SDAT to Final? Can't you just replace ALL the SSEQ, SBNK and SWAR in the Final SDAT with their Kiosk Demo counterparts? Also, MKDS Kiosk Demo and Final have a different method to play characters' voices; Kiosk Demo has all the characters' voices in a single SWAR file and the Final version has seperate SWAR files for each character.

Because I told you already. Do I have to spell it out for you? Porting kiosk demo music to the final sdat will NOT work! It will break the final sdat file!

It's not true, my ARM9 Editor can edit all the slots available on the Music Table.
Then where is the muisc slot for the Race Start Fan Fair? I checked I know. There are two Mario Circuit's and, the title screen is called "Unknown", there are two "course intro 1"'s and, There are no options for; The Race Start Fan Fair, The After Race 1st-3rd Place Points Screen Music or, The After Race 4th-8th Place Music, The After Time Trail Music, GCN Mario Circuit, Donkey_Course, Doken_Course, Luigi_Course, Mini_Block_Course, Nokonokno_Course.

I checked every music slot and played every sequence that was listed in each slot and, none of the slots above are options.

I've did that on donkey_course (DK Circuit), luigi_course (Luigi Flipper), nokonoko_course (Koopa Troopa Beach, shown here in the GIF) and test1_course (Alpha Rainbow Road), and they work perfectly.

The one thing they all have in common is that they all crash on a real DS but when I disable the animations it does not crash.

This method of texture animation causes a real DS to crash. For example nokonoko_course crashes in your alpha restoration hack but when I disable the animations it dose not crash.

Good morning. I'm really in trouble with the nsbmd exporter from MKDSCM. Is there another way to get a NSBMD file? I'm so under pressure.
If it fails to import a model the most likely cause is that your textures are size that are not supported by the Nintendo DS your textures can be 64 x 64, 32 x 32, 64 x 32, 32 x 64, 128 x 128, 128 x 64, 64 x 128 and, more but they cannot be something like 58 x 37 or 33 x 33 after you re-size the PNG images to one of the required sizes your model should import properly. Please note that anything bigger than 256 x 256 will cause the game to lag! EFE dose not have a NSBMD importer! 99% of the time it's something your doing wrong and not MKDSCM it's self.

I made a new version of my Port from the Course Wario´s Gold Mine from Mario kart Wii.
It now has:
- Much Higher Textures
- More Deteiled/Bug Free Model
- Fixed KMP (Wood sounds,fixes)
- It has the right Scale
- A bottom screen map (incomplete)
- Working Enemy Paths
- Working Item Paths
- Itemboxes and Coints
- lags fixed for the biggest part

You can download it here: http://store.dshack.org/index.php?/file/173-wario%C2%B4s-gold-mine-port/

Video:

I think you should add the mine carts. It's really simple actually, all you would have to do is add the car object from wuhu island into the KMP file and, replace the care model with the mine cart model from MKWii. The section of the course where the mine carts use the zip line to get back to the start would be really easy to remake, all you would have to do is set the path the cars follow to that height. Because the cars don't use the KCL file the go off of the Y position of the path they follow.

The trees are objects by the way you can add them in the KMP so there no need to model them.

Auto-Y, Render Distance and, Fog options, the legend button and, functions to replace and, export files and, i'll be satisfied because i'll no longer have to use MKDSCM or, EFE. Those features are necessities it should be unnecessary to have to go back and, forth between programs so much. Those features should come before any kind of course into viewer because they are vital to making a MKDS CT. All the switching around MKDSCM, EFE and, MKTB is too time consuming for me all have their own version of then NKM editior and, each one has a feature the other lacks. Take auto-Y for example it's a vital feature that makes placing things at the correct Y position quick and, easy but EFE and, MKTB lack that feature and, MKTB is made to replace MKDSCM. Not to mention EFE doesn't even mainly support MKDS anymore because of MKTB. So why in the world do I need the tool that is supposedly made obsolete by MKTB? Not to mention MKDSCM is very unstable, I hate using it because if I click on some thing like say the OBJI or, the EPOI tab because I need to remove something it crashes, just fucking lovely hours of hard work wasted! I have to switch to EFE or, MKTB to do a simple task like that. That's why GCN Rainbow Road took so long.

SGC Yellow "Why I can't use model ripped from MKDD"

Well I can't use models from MKDD because they will lag no matter how much you simplify them. This is because MKDD is so much better of a Mario Kart game and, MK7 freaks out and, lags uncontrollably because it's processing polygons from MKDD and, goes into shock and, lags because MK7 considers MKDD to be a god and, it is unworthy of displaying MKDD polygons.

"How do you get Thwomps to fall at different times in MKDS?"

Okay well first you rip the Thwomp model from MKDS then you get a ROM of "Hey You Pikatchu!" and, you replace
Pikachu's model with the Thwomp model that you ripped from MKDS and, when you're done doing that boot up the game in any emulator
and, say "Thwomp fall at a different time in MKDS!" the thowmp will say "Urr! Urrr!" then you extract the model from "Hey You Pikatchu!" and, put it back into MKDS then it will fall at a different time! Do this for each Thwomp.

You'll need to do all the file replacing in EFE because MKDSCM can't save in ROM and, you'll need MKDSCM for generating the model and, texture data NSBMD = Model and, NSBTX = Texture data, Example_Course.Carc = archive where the model data, KCL and, Level data are stored. Example_CourseTEX.carc = Where the texture and, touch map data is stored. You'll need MKTool Box to make the NKM. NKM = Level Data.

SGC Yellow Here's something I don't like about the NSBMD generator in MKDSCM, when it tells you that there is a that a specific texture is repeating too many times it doesn't give you enough specifics to go off of. This is especially annoying when a large amount of triangles use that same texture. Think about this for a second... There's a group of 1000 people one of them has a small cut on their arm and, you have to find him/her and, you are given no specific details only that he has a small cut on his arm and, that he is wearing a blue shirt. But there are 456 other people wearing blue shirts. How are you going to find him in a timely manner without checking every single person for a small cut?

It could at least somehow tell you the location of the triangle that has this problem. It would also be better if it told me what triangles and, textures have this problem all at once instead of just one at a time. This is the very reason why I have to delay the preview video of GCN Wario Colosseum tonight.

SGC Yellow Getting Started

Hello, and welcome to DSHack.org, we hope you enjoy your stay.
Alright, so you've decided that you want to make your own content for MKDS, huh?
Well, allow me to teach you the basics.

So, now with the introduction out of the way let's go over the tools you'll need, shall we?

Things You'll need

First of all, you'll need a 3D modeling program, you can use Blender, or Maya 2011, or 3DS Max 2011
Basically, you can use any 3D modeling program that can export to OBJ, or that can use the Nitro Plugins. (By the way, You only need one 3D moddeling program, not all of them).

Second of all, you'll need the tools to do things, such as MKToolBox, EFE, and MKDSCM.
You can download the tools from these links.
MKToolBox
EFE
MKDSCM

Alright, so now that you've downloaded the required tools, it's time to use them.

Making Your Model

The Nintendo DS can only have 2048 triangles on screen at a time,
so you have to think about everything that's going to be on screen at the same time, such as
the track model, objects, character, and karts, so the recommended amount of triangles for a course model is around 1300 triangles,
but you can have even more, if you know how to work with the render engine.

So, your wondering, "How am I going to know how big to make everything"? Well if your awful at maths like I am,
then your going to want to use this.

That white box is the size of a kart in MKDS, so model everything based on the size of that white box.

Adding Textures

Alright, now that you finished the model itself, you're going to add textures, correct?

The Nintendo DS doesn't have much RAM, so your textures must be small, "8", "16", "32", "64", "128", "256" are the recommended sizes.
There is also a requirement you must keep note of, your textures must be to the power of 2, or your model will not work.
You can read more about it here.

(Beware that Sketch Up's defalt UV editor isn't the best thing in the world, so be careful with it).
(Do NOT texture both sides of the faces, that is a common misconception among older tutorials, it WILL cause issues in game!)

Now that you're done with your model it's time to export it as an OBJ. (Your model must be triangulated, so make sure to do that.

Converting Your Model

Now your OBJ must be converted into an NSBMD, and NSBTX.

You can do this by openeing MKDSCM, and clicking File -> New -> NSBMD, then choosing your OBJ and, choose MKDS Scale as the scale, and click create NSBTX, then click OK.

(MKDSCM doesn't have any sort of progress bar, so just wait for it to react again. If it's taking an unusually long time either your texture aren't to the power of 2, or they are too big).

You should find your NSBMD, and NSBTX in the same location your OBJ file is in.
NSBMD = Model.
NSBTX = Textures.

Making The KCL

So, now you need to make a KCL file, it is recommended that you make a copy of your Sketch Up model, and delete the parts of the model the player will never touch.

After you do that convert that copy of the model to an OBJ file, then open EFE, and do this.
File -> New from File -> Mario Kart Plugin -> Mario Kart DS Collision (KCL) A small window should open now, replace "0000" with the type of collision you want.

You can download the KCL ID list I made here.

After you've entered the KCL IDs you want, close the small window, then another small window should come up, do not close it, click Save, and save the KCL file in the location of your choice.

Inserting The Track

Now that you've done all of that, it's time to put these files into a .CARC file, and how do you do that?

Well, it's rather simple actually, just open EFE, and then open a MKDS ROM, then you open the course folder inside the ROM,
and then right click on a "example_course.carc", and a "example_courseTex.carc file", and extract them.

Close the MKDS ROM, and open the "example_course.carc" file with EFE, so now you should see a few files inside, you need to replace course_model.nsbmd with the model you made, just right click it, and navigate to the location of your NSBMD file, then click open, and it should replace it.
Now replace the KCL with the KCL you made.

(If you're wondering, course_model_V.nsbmd is the sky box, so you don't need to replace it, unless you want to).

Importing with Maya + Nitro Plugins (Optional)

While you don't need Maya, it can be pretty nice to have, you'll have to download it from a Torrent, but I won't link any here.
Maya 2011 is the recommended version that you should use. (More details will be added soon).

Making the NKM

Just follow this next tutorial for making the NKM:

I've post a tutorial video on how to create a custom track model and collisions.
It may not be as complete as SCG's textual tutorial, but it should be good for those who prefers watching a video.
One thing about your tutorial that really bothers me is that, you're not supposed to texture both sides of the faces, that was debunked years ago, it's a common misconception, and doing so can cause some issues in game.

Thread: Question about character hacking
Author Posted on 2016/05/31
SGC Yellow I said that it was something similar, not exactly the same.

The voice data isn't really needed for the character to work, as a matter of fact the game will boot properly, as long as there's a sequence that the game can play, at the Nintendo Logo. Everything else will work fine without any sound data at all, however it's a bit boring.

It would most likely work very similarly to Gericom's more Cups, and Track ASM hack, with that you can add tracks, without replacing others.

You can include your own voice data, without replacing the voice of another character, however it requires tools from the Nitro SDK.

SGC Yellow Arctus, and I have recently figured out how to use YY-CHR to edit sprites in MKSC, a simple edit can be seen here.

-----Tools you'll need-----

- VisualBoyAdvance Emulator, to extract the palettes for the sprites you want to edit.

- YY-CHR, to Edit the sprites.

-----Steps to follow for the Palette-----
1. Open your rom in VisualBoyAdvance.

2. Go through the in-game menus until you get to the Character Select Screen, and select the character that you would like to edit.

3. After you do that, go to Tools in the menubar of VisualBoyAdvance, and select Palette Viewer.

4. In the window that opens, go to the bottom and click Save OBJ, and choose the name and directory that you want to save to, this will save the palette of each moving object on-screen, including the character that you have selected.

-----Step to follow for editing the sprites-----
1. Open your rom in YY-CHR, and go to the button that says Input &address when you hover over it.

2. Type in 345800 and click OK.

3. You should then be at the first player sprite(Mario facing forward). When you gain your bearings, open the palette that you saved with VisualBoyAdvance and in the Palette selection, scroll all the way to the last row of the palette(this is where the character palette should be).

4. After you do that, go over to the tile selection and scroll down until you find the character you chose to edit.

5. When you get to your character, feel free to do whatever you want to with the character sprite.

SGC Yellow I would say 2 of my favorite consoles are the GameCube, and N64, I played my Uncle's N64 when I was quite young, most likely around 2, or 3 years old, I'm not sure, one of my favorite game for that Console was Super Mario 64, I always felt like I was discovering new things in that game with it's open worlds, power stars. I got my Game Cube for Christmas when I was 6, or 7 years old, the first game I played with it were Super Mario Sunshine, and Mario Kart Double Dash, I'll never forget how I said "I wanna be the green Mario", and my mother told me that it was Luigi, which was most likely the first time I saw Luigi, and Super Mario Sunshine was fun as well, I would often like to play around with the goop. I also have blurry memories of playing Super Mario Kart on the SFC/SNES.

You could just as easily make a hack to show people your knowledge, if you look in the Hack Store, it tells you who made each hack, and that should a bit about what the creator of said Hack knows.

SGC Yellow Alright which version of MKDS CM are you using?
Also, you might want to use EFE, or Mario Kart Tool Box instead, MKDSCM can be a bit finicky with the NKM sometimes.

Here's a bit of a key to help you understand what some things do:

EPOI = These green dots are the path the CPU Players Follow.

IPOI =These yellow dots are the path that Items like Blue Shells, and Bullet Bill Follow.

OBJI = This is an object, like Trees, Goombas, or Item Boxes, for example.

CPOI = This is what the game uses to keep track of where the players are on the course, place CPOI 0 where the start of the course is to make the lap count when you go around the track.

Playing around with the NKM for existing courses can help you, as well.

Making an American explanation is very hard, it requires a lot of effort, clulessness, blood, sweat, and tears, and when you mix them all together to make such a wonderful explanation, it's like rainbows had a baby. Every bit of it is hard, the typing, the thinking, especially getting to the point, but we'll get to that later.

There are multiple versions of the American explanation, whatever this one could be considered, the slow and long kind, and the fast, and long kind, and the big slow kind, and the big slow fast kind, and the kind that take 10 days, choose the one perfect for the subject, this is very important.

As for the point, you want to know how to do it, don't you? Well, you just do what I did here, with the typing, and explaining, and stuff.

SGC Yellow If you want to replace character models, you'll need a 3D Modeling program, like Blender, or SketchUp, and MKDSCM to generate the Nitro System Basic Model Data (NSBMD) along with the Nitro System Basic Texture Data (NSBTX), but if you want to animate the character, you'll need Maya 2011, and the Nitro Plugins. (I won't link it here).

The title screen isn't a texture, by the way it's kind of like a background, you'll need an program called CrystalTile, same with the Character names on the Menu.

SGC Yellow Yes, you will still need SketchUp, and/or Blender, you will need to scale it, and simplify it (Only if the polygon count is too high), and such, so it will work correctly, you will all so need a static animation file, to keep it from crashing, but I don't know where to get that. Unless the model is an already existing character on the Hack Store.

Thread: [Tutorial] Making Music Hacks
Author Posted on 2016/12/03
SGC Yellow This is a tutorial on how to make Music Hacks, for any first timer:

What you'll need
You'll need a Midi editing program of some sort, like AnvilStudio, which you can download here.

If you're using Linux you'll have to find a program, I'm unsure what could be used, at the moment.
(If anyone could recommend something for this, I'll add the link here).

For Windows users: You'll need KiwiDS for unpacking the SDAT, and repacking it again when you're done.
You can find it here:

For Linux users: A tool for unpacking the SDAT, and repacking it again, isn't out yet, for Linux.

You'll also need MIDI2SSEQ, and SSEQ2MIDI
For Windows Users:
you can find them here.

For Linux Users:
You can get them from the Linux Tool Repository as instructed here.

Unpacking, and repacking the SDAT
You'll need to extract the SDAT file from your ROM, and unpack it to view the files, and replace things.

For Windows users:

Extracting the SSEQ you want to replace

It's a good idea to use VGMTrans, for this purpose.
Simply open VGMTrans, drag, and drop the ROM file.
Find the song you're looking for, and extract it as a midi file:

Editing The Music Hack
Open the SSEQ you converted to a midi in Anvile Studio,
and take note of the instruments it uses for each channel:

Then open the the midi file you want to use for your Music Hack,
and change the instruments in each channel, to match the ones in the SSEQ:

Converting the SSEQ to MIDI

This is needed, since you would need to use the same instruments at the Music you want to replace.
Just open it along side the Music hack you're making, and use it for reference.

For Windows Users:

For Linux Users:
usage : sseq2mid (options)
options:
--help show this usage
-0 --noreverb set 0 to reverb send
-1 --1loop convert to 1 loop (no loop)
-2 --2loop convert to 2 loop
-d --loopstyle1 Duke nukem style loop points (Event 0x74/0x75)
-7 --loopstyle2 FF7 PC style loop points (Meta text "loop(start/end)"
-l --log put conversion log
-m --modify-ch modify midi channel to avoid rhythm channel
____
sseq2mid by loveemu

To convert, you can simply type:
sseq2midi SOMETHING.sseq

Looping Your Music Hack

Make sure your Midi file isn't too big, by the way.
You'll need to remove anything that won't be in the Loop.

Converting the MIDI to SSEQ
Now you'll need to convert your MIDI to SSEQ, with MIDI2SSEQ.

For Windows users:

For Linux Users:
Usage:

midi2sseq midifile sseqfile

To convert, you can symply type:
midi2sseq /path/to/input.midi /path/to/output.sseq

(Tutorial unfinished).

Anything in pink was added by MKGirlism.
Thread: MKDS Minecraft character Possible...?
Author Posted on 2016/12/03
SGC Yellow That isn't how textures work, you've got it all wrong, each character model mostly uses a single texture for everything, the same is possible for something like this, as well.

For example, take a look at Marios Textures, see how his hat, shit, and overalls use the same texture?
That's how any character texture should be, having different textures for all parts of the model,
is not needed, can cause issues, and takes up too much VRAM, so you should make them like this.

Oh, by the way, triangles are what models are made of, having too many of them will cause big issues, so watch out.

Thread: Tutorial - CTs in Download Play
Author Posted on 2016/12/29
SGC Yellow After seeing recent threads about Download Play, and the thread on NSMBHD, this is a surprisingly simple thing to do.

Now, I have gotten a race to work, from what I can tell, the first player uses the regular Figure-8 Circuit by default, and the second player uses the download play version of Figure 8 Circuit.

I did get a CT to load, being GCN Peach Beach, but it crashed as soon as I touched one of the wooden crates from Delfino Square, meaning that some objects simply won't work properly in Download Play, so if anyone is to make a Download Play version of a CT, please take note of this detail.
I can complete the track with no issues, as long as I don't touch the crates, however.

It is not known at the moment, exactly what objects won't work properly in Download Play, but it's a safe bet that any object that wasn't in the Nintendo Download Play tracks, has a high chance of causing a crash, so keep note of this.

I can confirm that a CT as big as GCN DK Mountain, or possibly a little bigger will work with no issues.
Out of this I can also confirm the Boulder object, also doesn't work properly in Download play, it will cause a crash a few seconds after coming on-screen.

If you would like to try this your self, you'll need 2 launch model Nintendo DS Systems (MODEL NO. NTR-001), or 2 Nintendo DS Lite Sytems (MODEL NO.USG-001)
A mix of both a launch model DS, and a DS Lite, will also work.

As for the DSi, 3DS, ect this will not work on these systems, at all, never try to do so, if you do, things have a high chance of breaking, do so at your own risk.
This goes for the both the Firware.nds method, and the FlashMe method.

Make sure you replace both the normal version, and Download Play version of the track you want.

Then follow Method 2, in this tutorial.

Now you're ready!
Big thanks to Dirbaio for making the tutorial, and any other people who made this possible.

The only bad thing with this method is, that every course you want to add must have same filesize or less than the original you want to replace.

Also, I can confirm that this isn't the case, I've replaced the download play courses with CTs of a much bigger file size, and it still works fine.

Thread: MKDSCM won't open .swar files???
Author Posted on 2016/12/31
SGC Yellow Well, the explanation is simple, MKDSCM cannot open Swar files, out side of the sdat file.
This also goes for any other file in the sdat.

You can consider MDSCM an out of support program, and it along with EFE, and Mario Kart Tool Box, more likely than not, will never get anymore support, or fixes/additions.
It's prone to bugs, and as such, and it cannot open all files.

I would use NSMB-editor for messing with the item sprites... Just open the editor window and replace the sprite files and palettes as necessary.

Do I really need to tell you what you said?

Also, that method isn't needed, you can simple replace the textures, and have much better results, than if you were to edit them by hand, in NSMBe.
Editing them by hand, is a waste of time. Not to mention, those are textures, so editing them would take longer by hand, than editing an actual sprite.

Not to mention, the only real sprites you'll ever see in-race in MKDS, is the HUD.
Thread: Custom Items (MainRace.carc)

SGC Yellow Yes, but telling him that they are sprites, is basically giving him false information.
While it would have worked, it would have taken much longer.
Plus, no textures are not basically sprites, they are 2 different things, both in the way they work, and in the format they are in.

Also, keep in mind that being corrected is no big deal.

They're the same way, they have their own model files, change them the same way.

That's wrong, and nothing but wrong, they are not the same way, and the Icons in the Item Box do not use model files...

Here's a good tip: Stop talking about things, when you don't know what you're talking about, in the first place.
Stop, doing it, you're misleading people.

The items you actually use in the race are models, the icons in the item box, are not.
Models, Textures, and Sprites, are all different things, and you do not edit them the same way, period.

SGC Yellow After some talking, we've decided to make an MKDS Community Hack.
Now, this won't be a huge 32 track based hack, instead it'll be an 8 track hack featuring only 2 Cups.

Anyone on the forum can contribute to this, we'll accept Custom Tracks, Karts, Characters, Sprites, Music, and more.
If you would like to contribute the only rule is that you must be registered as a member here on DSHack.

Now as for the rules for the content that will be accepted, it's best if you give us something, that isn't already on the Hack Store.
Plus, it must be of decent quality, we will choose from the best submissions.

If you want to submit something, simply post about it in this thread, with a screenshot, or video, and send me the file(s) via a PM.

The dead line is on April 5th 2017, good luck!

I really like this idea, especially because i'll probably never make a hack on my own. Plus, this idea is really motivating, it's like some kind of deadline!

What i can help with:

-I can create samples for the soundfonts (anything, even realistic orchestral stuff), and i can help with music and compostion in general (i study it).

-I can finish my close to done first basic CT (the basic stuff works, only the nkm, music, course picture and map is left to do).

-I have a model of a SMW Skybox lying around that could be used if someone needs it. It's not animated though, but i could do that if I found out how to do texture/model animations.

Yes, it would be nice if you could make some music, though we'll just use soundfont already in MKDS.
Your CT, and that skybox would be useful, as well.

Nice :D
Could we use my Carrera track for the hack?
It only needs Bottom map and texture animations.

Sure we could use your track, just send it to me in a PM, when you're done.

Nice! Can't wait for the bcmdl and the nsbmd generator :)
Do you think, a nsbta (texture animation) generator is possible? SM64DSe has a generator, but the game uses BMDs. Are nsbmd and bmd similar, or are they a completely different thing?

To answer your question, SM64DS was one of the most early DS games, the model format it uses is based off of the same format that was used in some GC, and Wii games, though likely a bit simplified for DS standards, we can't say for sure if the format is similar to NSBMD, or not, but the 2 work in different was, so information about 1, will likely not help out with the other.

SGC Yellow You're doing it wrong, that's why, you need way more than just 5 Checkpoints, and it doesn't seem like you linked them, either.
What editor, are you using?

You have to link the Checkpoints in the CPAT, other wise it wont work at all, and Checkpoint 0 is the one that must be at the start of the course, since the game will only count laps, if you cross over Checkpoint 0, no other checkpoint will do this.
Thread: Game crashes when I put new checkpoints in course
Author Posted on 2017/02/13
SGC Yellow Checkpoint 0 has to be directly on top of the starting line, not in front of it, or behind it.

Linking Checkpoints in the CPAT is pretty easy, more on that in a moment.

And yes, they Checkpoints must go in order, they will work no other way.

Plus, they Key ID is just something that tells the game if that Check point must be passed, or not to allow the lap to count, it's really only useful if you plan on putting short cuts, but I would set at least a few Key IDs, anyway, so it will function correctly.

Linking the Checkpoints in the CPAT is very very easy. Just make it go to 0, and come from 0, as shown here, make sure the start index is 0, and the order is 0, and enter the amount of Checkpoints you have in "Length".
http://prntscr.com/e8cj9t Checkpoint 0 counts as 1 when you enter the length, so if it says you have 47 in the list of Checkpoints, enter 48 in "Length".
Thread: Game crashes when I put new checkpoints in course

Thread: Tutorial - Making Global Map Backgrounds
Author Posted on 2017/04/13
SGC Yellow Now, I'm sure most of you must know what I'm talking about,
those backgrounds you see on the bottom screen when you're using the second map button.
They usually have Mushrooms, Flowers, or Stars on them, but I'm here to tell you how to make your very own!

Things you'll need:

An Image editor like Paint.NET "MS Paint will not work for this".

NSMBe

MKDSCM Last

EFE

Now, you might say "But can't I just generate entierly new NCGR, NCSR, and NCLR files in MKDSCM?"
Well, no you can't if you do it that way, the backgound will only look corrupted, no matter what settings you use.

But, I have found a way around this limitation.

1. Open your MKDS ROM with NSMBe, and open the CourseTex.carc file of the course you want to change the backgound on.
The files for the background should be labled as "Global2" followed by the file extension.
Open the NCLR file, and make sure the "16 Color" option is turned on, then open your NCGR file,
and clikc "Add all" in the Palette Viewer.

Now in the 2D Texture Editor, make sure you have "View in 4pbb format" turned on,
and select "global2.NCLR - 1" in thr Palettes list in the 2D Texture Editor, and set the "Tile Width" to 4.
What you have should look something like this:

2. Now then you should click "Export this Bitmap".
Then in your image editor of choice (again it cannot be MS Paint, because it doesn't support trasnparency),
draw your new design in place of the old pattern, but don't drawn anything in the transperent segment of the image.

3. Now open MKDSCM generate an NCLR file, and an NCGR file, then delete the NCGR file,
because we only need to NCLR file.
(It doesn't matter what option you choose when you generated things, so don't worry about that).
Now, open the NCLR file in MKDSCM, and edit it, just copy the colours to the second row, starting from the right side.
(This is because the pallete data for the background is read from the second row in the NCLR file).
Save our edited NCLR file, and extract it to a place on your PC.

4.After you've done all that, repeat all the same steps from step 1, but this time, replace the original NCLR file,
with your edited one, and click "Import this bit map with exsisting palette" locate your edited image,
and save. (You'll get an error, but don't worry, it works, it has no side effects, and it still saves.

And now you're done!

Here's an example of a result:

Thread: general idea box for mk8d hacking
Author Posted on 2017/05/10
SGC Yellow MK8 CTs are something I see as not really happening.
The more powerful consoles get, the more detailed things become, and most ROM Hackers can only go so far with quality.
They would probably be pretty hard to make, from a detail stand point, and anything too low quality would look very out of place, anyway.

I honestly don't see MK8 CTs taking off anytime soon.
Thread: general idea box for mk8d hacking
Author Posted on 2017/05/10
SGC Yellow Well, I meant more that I don't think that such a community will take off very well.
Most ROM Hackers are fairly young of age, commonly 14 - 18 years old, and the skill level of a lot of people are, very low.
Most can only make N64 quality model, or fairly decent GC/Wii quality models, while very few can make HD Wii U/Switch quality models.

The way I see it, entry difficulty, how difficult it is to make things look nice according to the game's standard, and how easy it is to make things in general,
are all contributing factors to how well a community centered around hacking a certain game will do, as well as the general interest in hacking the game.

If MK8/MK8D CTs do become a thing, we'll more likely than not see a lot of low-quality out of place looking CT, and very few well made ones,
likely even less well made CTs, than what you would see in the MK7, or MKWii community.

Making something good for a game like MK8 would take a near proffesional amount/level of skill, and experiance,
and a lot of ROM Hackers either don't have the time, or the effort to do that sort of thing.

So there's a very high chance, the MK8 hacking community will be very small, or become non-existent, once the actual difficulty of creating things comes to light.

Enthusiasm can only go so far.
Thread: general idea box for mk8d hacking
Author Posted on 2017/05/10
SGC Yellow That was with the bridge object from Donut Plains, and it went over SNES Rainbow Road, so no modeling was done here, it seems.
While it is a CT, it seems to be yet another proof-of-concept type of thing.

A lot more work would have to go into making an actual CT.
Thread: general idea box for mk8d hacking
Author Posted on 2017/05/10
SGC Yellow But, if you would actually read my 2nd post above, a lot of people really don't seem to be thinking about it in a realistic sense.

Due to the graphical standard of MK8/MK8D, it's very slim that there will be too many decent CTs, you're not taking into consideration,
trust me making any kind of model isn't an easy task, and making something up to the quality standard of the Wii U, is something not many ROM Hackers do.

As I said most are young, between the ages of 14 - 18, or slightly younger, and lack the needed experience.
The quality standard, plus the level of effort most ROM Hackers are willing to put into something very strongly varies,
these things are the reason SMG Hacking never really took off, for example, it was simply too hard for most people to meet the standards,
and put the effort into making things look good when compared to the original game.

The chance that anything like a GCGP-8 will happen is low, the more a game demands, the smaller the community tends to be.

Thread: I just got an idea on how to test ds rom hacks without a flashcard!
Author Posted on 2017/05/27
SGC Yellow Download play is kind of a touch subject, but I can already tell you that this would not be possible.
When you play a game via download play, the entire game is downloaded to the RAM of the DS/3DS,
and there's far from enough room in RAM to store an entire full length game.
Further more, this would not be possible on the 3DS, either, since when the 3DS enters DS download play,
it goes into DS Mode, and gains all of the limitations of an actual DS, including RAM size, and there's not really anyway around that.

Not to mention the DS, and 3DS use no Bluetooth technology.

I have played around with cracked versions, and dev versions of DS Download play on both the DS, and 3DS,
so I know a good bit about how it works.

You can play CTs via DS Download Play in MKDS via Single Card Multiplayer, but if you use an object that's not in one of the original download play courses, the game will crash,
this is because the full version of MKDS is NOT sent in download play, instead, a optimized version of the ARM 9, and such is sent to the guest DS, and far from everything is there.

When you play MKDS with another version via Single Card download play, you're really just playing a different smaller version of MKDS all together.

SGC Yellow No, if you read my post again, you can see that I said that it's impossible due to RAM size limitations, it cannot be worked around, or changed.
Plus, sending DS software to 3DS Mode Download Play won't work, either.

The amount of RAM on a DS cannot be changed, and you cannot fit full retail games on the RAM, there quite simply isn't enough memory.

Trust me, if it was possible to send full retail games like MKDS via download play, Nintendo themselves would have taken advantage of it.
(The Single Card Play mode in MKDS wouldn't have been so limited, if it were possible).

There was this tub of liquid that would mix up your DNA, if you hopped into it with a bit of someone elses's DNA.
For some reason, I decided to hop in with a bit of hair from some girl, and when I came out, half of my body was my original look, and the other half looked like the person who's DNA I hopped in with.
Then I started to wonder how to turn myself back to normal, so I snipped some hair from the original half, and hopped in, it seemed to work, but with one extremely bad side effect: it caused very fast aging to occur, and I started to turn into an old man...

Author Posted on 2017/08/20
SGC Yellow The voices are mute because the file size of the voice clips you used are too big, and they over flowed the RAM the game has avalible to it.
You need to lower the file size of your voice clips with an audio editing program.

And yes, the same thing happens with MKDS (Sorry to burst your bubble, but MKDS is even worse when it comes to this, since it's such a complex game) , it's not just 1 game, it pretty much happens with any DS game if you make the file too big,
and each game is going to require a different file size.

And I can't tell you how big it should be, you'll have to experiment until you get the files small enough to work properly.

The DS isn't like the Wii and such, so you can't just convert a that's high quality, and expect it to work.

Thread: How to create an NSBTX for Custom Characters that is compatible with face animations
Author Posted on 2017/09/04
SGC Yellow Tutorial by Yawshi, ported to the forums by me with his permission.
Tutorial for 3DS Max 2011

Note: If your character's face is in the same material as their body, skip everything to do with "p_main", because you won't need it,
if that is the case.

1. Open the material editor and make 2 materials; one NITRO Standard and one NITRO Morpher.

2. Double click on the NITRO Morpher Material and rename it to "P_face".

3. Double click on the NITRO Standard Material and rename it to "P_main".

4. Add a new bitmap for the body texture and name it "P_main".

5. Link the "P_main" bitmap to the "Diffuse Color" of the "P_main" material by connecting the circles.

6. Select the "P_main" material by double clicking on it. Then go to the viewport and select the object which you want to assign the material to. After you have done this return to the material editor and click this button to assign the material to your selection.

7. With the material selected click this button to make it visible in the viewport.

8. Now look at the NITRO Morpher material. At the bottom you should see a map called "Base". There should be a standard material connected to it called "Default Material". Double click on it and delete it.

9. Now create a new NITRO Standard material and call it "P_face.1".

10. Create a new bitmap and select the texture which you want to use for the default face. Rename it to "P_face.1".

11. Link the newly created "P_face.1" bitmap to the diffuse channel of the "P_face.1" material.

12. Link the "P_face.1" material to the "Base" map of the "P_face" NITRO Morpher material.

13. Now go back to the top of the NITRO Morpher material. Create a new NITRO Standard material and name it "P_face.2".

14. Create a new bitmap and select the texture you want to use for the lose/damaged face. Name it "P_face.2".

15. Link the newly created bitmap to the diffuse channel of the "P_face.2" material.

16. Link the "P_face.2" material to the "Mat 1" map of the "P_face" NITRO Morpher material.

17. Select the "P_face" NITRO Morpher material by double clicking on it. Then go to the viewport and select the object which you want to assign the material to. After you have done this return to the material editor and click this button to assign the material to your selection.

18. To make it visible in the viewport, select the "P_face.1" (base material) and click this button.

19. Export your IMD and convert it to nsbmd and nsbtx.

20. Open the nsbtx and check the correct textures are present.

21. As you can see the correct textures are present however the texture names were changed to "P_face_1" and "P_face_2" instead of "P_face.1" and "P_face.2".

22. To fix this open the nsbtx in a hex editor and locate where it says "P_face_1" and "P_face_2".

23. Change these to "P_face.1" and "P_face.2".

24. Now locate where it says "P_face_1_pl" and "P_face_2_pl".

25. Change these to "P_face.1_pl" and "P_face.2_pl".

26. Now save it and reopen the NSBTX in MKDS CM. You should see that the texture names are now correct meaning that the NSBTX is now compatible with face animations.

27. Now all you need to do is edit the texture names in the NSBMD file. Open it in a hex editor and locate where it says "P_face_1".

28. Change it to "P_face.1".

29. Now locate "P_face_1_pl".

30. Change it to "P_face.1_pl" and then save the NSBMD. The NSBMD should now be compatible with the NSBTX file you just created.

SGC Yellow Yes, you cannot use textures like that, as a matter of fact, 326 x 326 is too big anyway, they need to be smaller, like 32 x 32, or 64 x 64, the largest recommended size is 256 x 256, but even then not all of your textures should be that big, otherwise your model will be completely black in game, because the size of your textures would overflow the VRAM.

Thread: Custom Track creation with Blender
Author Posted on 2017/09/10
SGC Yellow No, do not import it into SketchUp, that's the worst thing you could possibly think of doing with the model.
It will fuck up your model to hell, and back, and that's no joke, it's from personal experiance.
It can cause doubles in your models, among other thing, plus SketchUp doesn't even have a proper
UV editor, so if anything it would be harder in Sketchup, and just look ugly.

If you want to fix some UV editing, just do it in Blender, and if you don't know how, allow me to teach you.
Simply, go into Edit mode, and make sure you're in face select mode, hold Shift to select the multiple faces you want to UV Map,
add your texture, and in the UV Editor, you can press the period/del key on the Num pad to go straight to your selected UVs.

Just ask if there's anything else you need to know.

But something's probably wrong with your model.
Are your textures below 512 x 512 in dimensions?
Are the dimensions of your textures following the power of 2 rule?

There might also be an invalid polygon in your model, what program did you make it with?
Trimble Sketchup is not recommended, and has a high chance of creating invalid polygons.

Until I get back to you with what the error means, please try following the "getting started" tutorial, and also try what I mentioned above.

Thread: Applying custom tracks problem
Author Posted on 2017/11/15
SGC Yellow No MKDS Hacks have that issue, EKDS isn't a special case when it comes to inserting tracks without crashing, it sounds like you're importing the tracks the wrong way.
The tracks should be in "example_course.carc" files, and the textures for the tracks should be in "example_courseTex.carc"

Can you give some screenshots?

By the way, if you're trying to use tracks from EKDS in an MKDS ROM, you can't because the files in EKDS Beta 1 are encrypted,
they will not work in MKDS if they are from EKDS Beta 1, I repeat, they are encrypted, and we cannot help you with that.

then reinsert the edited BMG file with EFE.

The fact that MKDSCM doesn't save in ROM is a well known problem, actually, nothing new.

SGC Yellow
I have a Fire Mario texture for Mario Kart DS.
I did extract the file to my SD Card, but it won't work.

The person above me is right, MKDS does NOT work that way, you it doesn't read things from the SD Card, that's simply impossible.
You have to replace the files in the ROM it's self.
DS Hacks are very different from 3DS, and Wii Hacks, so any knowledge of how Wii, and 3DS Hacks works is complete, and utter useless garbage,
when you're trying to mod MKDS, so throw all of that out the window.

You have to use MKDSCM, and EFE to texture hack the character model manually, and reinsert it into the ROM.
And before you ask, no you don't have to unpack, or rebuild the ROM, and no, SZS files don't exsist in MKDS.
It's too different to treat it like MK7, or MKW.

Author Posted on 2018/02/14
SGC Yellow In order to replace character, you require Maya 2011, or 3DS Max 2011. (Will not link here, since you may know how that sort of thing goes).
Characters will crash the game if they do not have any animations/

And MKDSCM can not save in-ROM, that is what it did not save, you cannot do that with MKDSCM, it is not supported,
if you want to import something into the ROM, you must use EFE.

To replace character voices, and game play sounds, and music in general, you must know how the sdat works, and where everything is,
there is no super easy way to replace music, you have to find midi, figure out what insturments you want to use, and convert the midi into an SSEQ.
It's going to take a lot of work either way, so there are no short cuts, and streamed music is not supported.

As for sound effects, the sequences for those are kept in SSAR files, and you cannot edit those without SDK tools, and such, so you're a bit out of luck there,
but most things should be fine, if you simply want to replace the sound sample, but please note things like ROB's, and Dry Bone's voices, and the Bullet Bill's sounds cannot be properly chnanged without SSAR editing, and Waluigi Pinball's special sound effect cannot be easily disabled.

To make NSBCA animations, you need Maya 2011, or 3DS Max 2011 + the Nitro Plugins whichever program you choose is simply a matter of taste, they can both do all the same things, same goes for making course models with texture animations, and vertex colors, and culling in general.

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/398883899582840832/399134242958737428/DSSS.7z

https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/398883899582840832/406219387025096716/MIDI2SSEQ__DLLs.zip

And there's the links to all the general tools you'll need, minus Maya 2011, and/or 3DS Max 2011, (Won't help you find the first 2) and you can find the nitro plugins, and some SDK tools in the Hack Store.

SGC Yellow "like i said, i already have the model i need, I ripped it from another DS game"

Putting a model from another game into MKDS simply won't work by just putting it in, each game is a special case, and the model you ripped could have a high tri count than needed.

There's a specific image sizes you need some thing to be, there's a specific way you need to set up textures for faciel expression animations,
and the tri count of a character in MKDS must not go too high above 200 tris in total.

I'm honestly bewildered, what does this have to do with Mac OS? The Nitro Plugins don't even work on Mac OS,
and the Hack Store isn't operating system exclusive, it's part of the site. It's not a problem, because it;s a problem that doesn't exist.
And Maya, and 3DS Max are not Mac exclusive, as a matter of fact Nintendo never used Mac OS at all for the development of DS games,
they used Windows.

Anyway, just download this, the plugins will be included with everything else.

There really aren't any other options, aside from ripping the model, re-texturing it in a model program such as Blender, and using Nintendo tools to import it back into the game. Also, EFE can't replace textures in DS games, iirc.

SGC Yellow As far as I'm concerned, it's up to MKDSHacker to do so, since it's his hack, he'll have to edit his first post with more detail.
My apologies.

When he sends a PM saying he can show more, I'll be more than happy to unlock this thread, as I stated before.

Not to mention the nature of this hack kind of goes along with Term 9.
9. Don't violate the Copyright of other people.
Don't steal work from other Forum Members, credited or not.
Also, don't Upload anything in the Hack Store that isn't yours, unless you have permission form the original creator, to do so.

So unless he's asking each person that made the CTs, and such he's going to use for permission, I don't see this going anywhere.

Not to mention his description of the hack is far from decent.
Thread: Someone might be stealing romhacks
Author Posted on 2018/06/07
SGC Yellow Yes, clearly I stole CTs from myself, nice work detective!

Hey guys, this guy on GBATemp's claiming to be making a full Mariokart DS romhack, but all of his screenshots and "proof of concept" videos seem to be exactly what's on this store, and each track's made by different people on here so it can't be one guy making them.
I'm not sure if he's doing it with consent from the creators, or if he's doing legitimate work, but I think he's claiming this as his own from what he's talking about on the thread. Can someone tell if he's doing it legitimately or taking credit for other people's work?

By the way, have you ever stopped to think that maybe I uploaded them here? Hmm, shocking, right?
Plus, did you ever stop to look, and see my name in the list of creators of these tracks? Hmm...

You know, it would have been way better if you had taken the time to look, and read carefully before posting this at all, and making yourself look stupid.

it can't be one guy making them.

Can't it? I've been on this site for about 4 years making each of these, and I've ported each of the 16 main tracks from MKDD on my own in some form, or another in the past, or I've worked with others to do so.

Also SGC. I believe I found a solution to fix the one CPU going top speed and the other CPUs go slow. All you gotta do is take an official nkm. And do not I repeat. Do not Delete all of the EPOIs. As long you keep some EPOIS. The CPUs will actually try now. :)

We actually figured that out a good while ago.
It has to do with the distance values in the checkpoints, some versions of MKDSCM would apply these values automatically upon moving CPOI, which is why the CPUs were good in Dry Dry Desert, only we didn't realize that was the issue the at the time.
A new revision of MKTB that adds these distance values automatically upon simply pressing the save button was made, and that fixes the issue.

SGC Yellow How to use HD textures in MKDS! :3

Okay, all you need to do is buy a Wii U, then take the Wii U apart, and get a small screen from somewhere, maybe from an Netbook you don't use anymore.
Then you take the Netbook apart, and throw everything from the Netbook away, except for the screen, and the case.
Now take the Wii U game pad apart, and put all of the insides of the Wii U, and game game pad inside of the Netbook's shell.
The game pad stuff goes on the bottom part, and the screen goes on the top part.

Once done, download MKDS from the eShop, and hack your Wii U, then insert MK8 textures into MKDS, and now you can use HD textures in MKDS! X3

This is 100% true, as usual!

Thread: So....I swapped shy guy and ROB's model and got problem (Solved!)
Author Posted on 2018/07/03
SGC Yellow This is likely because you didn't swap the texture data, because in MKDS textures, and models are not in the same files, in most cases.
NSBTX = Textures. NSBMD = Models.

I should also note that in the US, and EU versions of MKDS, there's special programming for ROB, and his karts that swaps their palettes, so the textures will likely break because of his hard coded palette in those two regions of the game.
Thread: So....I swapped shy guy and ROB's model and got problem (Solved!)
Author Posted on 2018/07/03
SGC Yellow From your screenshots, it seems your using the Korean version of the game.
ROB's special programming does not exist in that version of the game, so you're fine there.

From what I can tell, what you forgot to do is, you forgot to replace his texture for his in-race model.

Characters in MKDS, have different textures, and models for the menu, and for the race.
You have ti replace files for both versions.

This thread fails to meet Term 14 expectations in our Terms of Service, and as such, I'm locking it.

Yes, you did supply a video, but all you did was change course names on the menu, which anyone can do in 10 seconds,
so I'm going to say that simple edits like changing the course names on the Menu, of Character names,
don't fall into the range of content significant enough to support your hack.

Unless you can show off work you did on your own that's in-game this thread is staying locked.
We don't do these kinds of threads here where you practically just ask people if they'll do things for you,
without having done anything to contribute yourself.

Send me a PM when you make a few things for this on your own, and you have screenshots of it, and I'll unlock this thread.
Not to mentioned, I'm not even sure if you asked Ermii, or anyone else permission that you plan to borrow from if you could use the stuff you plan to use from them.
Your hack just seems to be filled with Hack Store stuff other people have made when it comes to Retro Courses, another big red flag here.
Not that you can't as long as you get proper permission, but that's usually super boring, as it brings nothing new to the table,
and it's just CTs people have already played.

SGC Yellow Well, I've spoken with the other's about it, and either your KCL file is fault, or you mixed up your KCL values.

Thread: Tutorial - Getting Started
Author Posted on 2018/08/01
SGC Yellow A bit of info I should mention here is that recently, it's been decided that your entire model shouldn't be triangulated, because it's a pretty big waste of resources.
You should use quads in your model where ever possible, and it's recommended that you only use tris if you really need to.
This only applies to people that use Maya, or 3DS Max 2011 to make NSBMD, MKDSCM's NSBMD generator does not support quads.
Nintendo used quads in a lot of their models, including karts.

Take Wario Colosseum here, I'm using quads where ever I possibly can,
as a result, the model is only really using 1168 faces, compared to 1741 if I were to use tris on everything instead, allowing more detail in some cases, and making the model much more efficient than it would be otherwise.

Please note that KCL (course collision) does not support quads, so you'll need to triangulate your model for that.

NKM, because KCL is for collision.

KCLファイル?当?り判定?ファイル?????NKMファイルを変更??下??

Judging from what he's saying, he's asking how to make a fall boundary in a course,
so NKM would be the wrong thing to edit here, NKM in no way has anything to do with fall boundaries.

A fall boundary in MKDS, is a part of the collision model in the KCL, with a collision ID tied to it that states it's a fall boundry,
any triangle in the collision data that has such an ID tied to it is non solid, and the player re-spawns once they fall through it.
But, I might just be stating the obvious to you with this part.

We have two KCL IDs for falling here:
00 0B = Fall (Normal)
20 2B = Fall (Water)

The first one is for normal falls, like falling from cliffs, and such, and the second one is for falling into water,
like in Delfino Square.

As for Ambience, I don't think this case needs any kind of hex editing, but it depends on what kms360 wants to do really,
if it a CT, then hex editing the KCL is completely unneeded.

New feature include:

Being able to select more than one point at once by holding shift, and clicking on them, and moving them with the left mouse button as usual.

It is now possible to automatically generate IPOI from EPOI, and make EPOI from IPOI, so now you don't have to make both manually.

There is also a new IPOI, and EPOI draw mode, you can simply click on a spot where you want to place an EPOI, or IPOI, and it will simply spawn there,
then you can place the next one, plus you can link EPOI/IPOI together by having an EPOI/IPOI selected, and then holding shift, and clicking the other EPOI/IPOI you want to link it to, this is useful for creating courses with multiple routes.

Key Checkpoints are new a different color from normal checkpoints, as well.

So where is it? It a download simply doesn't exist, like I've said before, I'm not releasing it until I'm happy with the state of it, no earlier, not later.

Also, just so you know, asking for downloads tends be rather annoying to the people that make this stuff,
with a project this far along, chances are, many other people have asked before you, and have got similar reply, or no reply at all.

Let's put it this way, stop asking for release dates, or downloads if there is one, the creator of what you want would likely post one.

We might as well count download, and release date requests as spam, because let's be honest there, that's practically all they become after the first 2, or 3 people ask. So please refrain from asking these sorts of questions, thanks.

SGC Yellow If he's using MKDSCM for NSBMDs that doesn't matter, because MKDSCM automatically renames the materials to something shorter, anyway. Any materials names you put into Sketch Up, or any other 3D modeling software are not kept if you are creating NSBMDs with MKDSCM.

SGC Yellow It sounds like you're putting them in the wrong archive.
you shouldn't even call it "cross_course.tex"

It MUST be called course_model.nsbtx, file names are not customizable,
because MKDS is looking for a specific file name, if you call the nsbtx file anything else, you're doing it wrong.

Also, the NSBMD, and NSBTX wouldn't generate at all if the textures didn't follow the power of 2 garhoogin, so that's impossible in this case, if he already has an NSBMD, and NSBTX generated.
