Jesse Or import .dae to NSBMD? I do not really like the maya whateverversion thing and such. I mean I hope it wouldn't be much work (otherwise I feel somehow forced to make a program myself (self guilt))

Jesse > blender

what is the problem with blender

why do I have to chose between a program which isn't even worth mentioning for 3d modelling and a program which I have to download some vague version and plugins for which most likely are not going to work this fantastic on my computer. Also many GigaBytes.

They sound like weak arguments but they are actually really good. I don't want to go through the trouble of importing it in maya and fix everything every time I want to test the track.

3ds max and May are more popular because they are what the industry uses. Blender is more hobby grade.

Exactly, its a hobby. not a carriere or smth.

But its just an idea. its nice to not be depended on certain software

sketchup sux

Well, I use it because I don't want to spend 20billion hours watching tutorials for other software. It's good for basic models, but nothing past that.

"20billion hours watching tutorials"

Big fat bullshit. Blender is literally like sketchup just extruding faces/vertices/edges. If you actually would try it, you would see how easy and flexible programs like blender/maya/3ds max are. Besides, sketchup takes 394028940238990349234129421849320493284 ours to complete a polygon while in blender you can do it with one button.

But here is the actual reason why I hate this program, I have NEVER EVER seen a proper custom level/course made in sketchup for any game. Thats because people are so limited on what they can do with it. I mean, with sketchup you can already forget proper uv mapping.

It just irritates me to see a person spamming out a model with 8 or 9 triangles and call it a model. its just a blamage.

So Another Super Mario 3D is "Bad" in your opinion? It was made in Sketchup. -_-

Well yes modelwise it wasn't this good. for example the lack of proper texturing. But the game got great idea's and designs so that makes it less noticeable.

Thread: How to lower the face count in CTs made in sketchup?
Author Posted on 2015/07/12
Jesse Well in blender you need to look at the Tris, since that is what counts.

One way of decimating my models is dissolving the vertices. You do this by going into edit mode and vertex selection, select a vertex and press Ctrl+x. This will dissolve the vertex into the closest vertices. a polygon will be created, so you need to select that face in face select mode and press Ctrl+t.

An example, before: 960 triangles

Select vertices > Ctlr + x > select polygon > Ctlr + t

after: 924 triangles

Worst example ever but I hope you get the idea.

There is also a modifier which decimates your whole model on calculations. you can choose how much you want it to be decimated and apply it. But it will give you less influence over what you decimate.

Thank you that helps a bit but when I, try it it erases stuff. :b

Yes that's what you want, don't you?

I see a lot of stuff which you can decimate in the model, but I hate describing stuff so... try Ctrl + x on the road?

the "new" sign doesn't get showed at the forum home. so I need to check every section if there are new posts in threads. is this my fault or...?

You can't simplify an huge lowpoly model, remember :p.
Well, just merge some triangles et voilà! (That's how I do it)
Wait a minute how do you marge triangles?

Ctrl + x, thats what I explained in the first post. Its the same, you get the same. If you want stuff to work on a ds, you'll need to lose triangles, deal with it.

Besides mario kart ds is made to properly work with bumpy roads. Anyway I circled the "eye-candies" which you can do Ctrl + x on.

Thread: general idea box for mk8d hacking
Author Posted on 2017/06/19
Jesse The problem with CT's for mario kart wii and will be for mario kart 8, is sketchup. Almost all people just want a quick and nasty way to make CT's to feel satisfied. Because of the push and pull nature of sketchup, you'll only get one kind of CT: a square like CT. Even the people most skilled at sketchup make CT's with bad topology, so bad that it affects gameplay.

In reality mario kart wii and 8 tracks at nintendo are being designed first and thought through. And above all, they use proper modelling tools (actual modelling tools, sketchup is a sketch tool) like maya or 3dsmax.

Blender does the same job very well too, and its free so there is basically no excuse for people for people not use it. Then you hear people say "I don't have enough time to learn blender" or "blender is too hard I can't learn it". Blender is known for its bad userinterface but what does that say, many everyday people use this tool, it is very much possible to learn it within a reasonable time span. But seeing how most mkwii and probably mk8 hackers are between 14 and 18, they'll be probably to stubborn to widen their skillset. Usually people become more eager to make quality content at age 20. At that point most people stopped with stuff like this.

Mario kart wii hacking is just the worst tool combined with the people in their worst years.

Jesse gba hacking is not like ds hacking where you replace a file. You will have to manually find where the sprites are stored by looking at the code that writes to the OAM.
