StapleButter On the internet, I run forums, I am a moderator person, all that junk. In reality, not so much.

My character in reality is double-edged, and mostly depends on my self-confidence. If I'm confident, I can be tough as rock, but if I'm not, I'm a total fuckshit.
Thread: NSMB2 editor upcoming -- CoinKiller
Author Posted on 2015/09/28
StapleButter shameless advertising

The upcoming NSMB2 editor will likely be similar to Reggie! in functionality, interface, whatnot. First versions will operate on raw files (.3ds or .cia), further versions may also work on individual game files à la Reggie!. Reason is that for now, given the lack of a 3DS Riivolution-like, this will be the easiest way to test levels. (and honestly with how much of a pain it is to make a Riivo-like, it's better off as a part of a CFW, like in the NTR CFW)

It's also not based on any Reggie! fork, it's something fresh instead. Source code!

but I don't have a Gateway

Ninjhax can be used to launch CFWs or whatever that can run unsigned CIA files. Or maybe Citra can run NSMB2. Rest assured that there is a way out of this shit. Maybe it's not convenient for you, but there's a way out.

why not merge efforts with Reggie! NSMB2 or whatever it's called

I don't think Python is the right language for building this kind of project. Otherwise I'd gladly join forces. I also want to have some fun, too! We haven't been writing new level editors in ages nowadays.

.3ds? CIA? Gateway? but that's working in favor of piracy

Quite honestly, with how fucked up the 3DS scene is, I don't really care about piracy. Not like this project would have an impact on piracy or overall cause Nintendo to go bankrupt.

And even if a 3DS Riivo-like existed, you still couldn't prevent piracy. On the Wii, it's convenient because you just have to require the original disc (although you can use a modchip and a burned disc, but that's more involved than what the average pirate can afford). But on the 3DS, there's no point when you have things like Gateway or ability to install any title to the system by converting it to a CIA. Bascially, any efforts at preventing piracy are futile.

I'm not in favor of piracy, I just keep my time and energy for what makes sense.

whatever else

Just post. The thread is here to collect opinions, thoughts, whatnot, that could affect the editor's building and make it the most awesome software of 2015. We want to hear you!

StapleButter shouldn't Nightmare Whatever's layout be removed or de-swastika'd

oh also, make the redirect pages auto-redirect (or yet better, adopt instant redirects)

StapleButter You might want to consider the fact that Jews could be offended by that. Or that nobody likes nazis.

I don't see how redirects are demanding, atleast not Acmlmboard-style redirects. You're already providing a link on the redirect page, just add a <meta> redirect to that URL.

Instant redirects are more involved though. You can't send new headers once you have started outputting the page, so you have to watch out for that.

StapleButter On user profiles:

* 'show posts' doesn't work, page is empty beyond header/footer
* 'view threads' seems to work, but the links to the threads miss the ID, making them pointless

might want to make that PM system more intuitive

Back on topic... I had an interesting dream this night, but I can't remember it. Blarg. Or it was multiple dreams because I woke up lazily.

Author Posted on 2015/09/29
StapleButter StapleGrassButterTea is a name I made up on some random board. Was told it was original. I shortened it, and uh, there you go.

StapleButter Nice, but shouldn't posting a new thread redirect to the thread?

Similarly, posting in a thread should redirect to your post. It just redirects to the first page of the thread, regardless of where the post landed.

oh and please for the love of us who use <- arrows and >_< smilies and other funky shit, change the shoutbox to use htmlspecialchars() instead of strip_tags() or whatever it's using

should also give a fixed/minimum height to the online users bar -- the different sizes of usernames makes the page jump around when it refreshes

StapleButter that's like saying the metric system is pointless because there is already the nonsense imperial system

I am another of those persons who use the 24-hour format

also, the board seems to use the 12-hour format but without the AM/PM part, so much for that

you put this code in a HTML file and you can read the shoutbox without being logged in

basically, never trust the client

Thread: Whatever happened to having a normal menu/sidebar?
Author Posted on 2016/09/11
StapleButter That menu topbar is uh, weird. Not only does it completely clash with the board's visual style, but it's loaded via JS, meaning that a) it doesn't work if you have JS disabled and b) it appears AFTER everything has loaded, making things jump around.
Thread: The shoutbox: why not just go IRC?
Author Posted on 2016/09/12
StapleButter I mean, this shoutbox thing is cool and all, but it feels laggy and limited.

The window is tiny, which isn't very convenient for reading a bunch of conversation.

Newer messages show on the top instead of the bottom, which is counter-intuitive.

The 4-second delay after submitting a line is infuriating. Especially with the associated lag.

Why not just use an IRC channel? IRC just works, it's simple and straightforward. You can probably embed a KiwiIRC client or something in a page, too.
Thread: Whatever happened to having a normal menu/sidebar?
Author Posted on 2016/09/12
StapleButter Well, the bar looks out of place, it clashes with the board's visual style. It looks like those derpboards where they copypaste bits of HTML/etc from elsewhere.

You can very well make a topbar or sidebar that doesn't shrink the forum page and integrates well.

The loading via JS is the worst issue though. It keeps loading after everything else and making things jump around.
Thread: The shoutbox: why not just go IRC?
Author Posted on 2016/09/12
StapleButter Oh, in that settings form in the footer. Not so intuitive. And why limit it to 250?

What are the gripes against IRC, anyway?
Thread: Whatever happened to having a normal menu/sidebar?
Author Posted on 2016/09/12
StapleButter Blargboard did it at some point, and it didn't make shit jump around (or by one pixel or so).

ie. it can be implemented much better than it is right now.
Thread: The shoutbox: why not just go IRC?
Author Posted on 2016/09/12
StapleButter why should I hide the shoutbox to access the dedicated page? sounds like an arbitrary restriction.

anyway, the shoutbox size isn't forum-wide, it only applies to me... my own choice if I want it to be 3077 pixels tall :P
