MKDS Custom Characters: Texture Problems

User 281 Hello! So I am kinda new to Character hacking and I keep running into the same problem everytime I try to create my own model.... My FAVORITE character has always been birdo, and I wanted to add her over yoshi in Mario Kart DS. SO, what I did to "create" her was:

1) Extracted the LOW-poly model of Yoshi (I plan to Make her static)
2) Opened/Imported the model in BLENDER and then made minor adjustments= I flattened Yoshi's nose, and made the top horn look like a bow on the back of his head.
3) Exported the model as an .obj
4) Opened MKDSCMLast and used the nsbmd creator, pressed normal scale and checked "make .nsbtx"
5) Then I replaced the old files with the new files and started the game

BUT, when I hover over the character it is a solid grey (Textureless) color, and when I try to open the textures in EFE or MKDSCM it pops up with an error saying, " Unhandled exception has occured in your application

InvalidArgument=Value of '0' is not valid for 'SelectedIndex'. Parameter name: SelectedIndex."
and then when I press Continue, the texture window opens, but its empty...... Swiftie Luna had the exact same problem in an older thread, but it doesn't say how she solved it. PLEASE HELP, nobody on NSMBHD knew how to fix it! ;_;

Super Okay, theres 3 possible outcomes I can think of; none of them might be correct, however.

Better than nothing, though. Isn't it?

1. MKDSCM's NSBMD Creator only supports SketchUp Pro importing. (???)

2. The texture file size is too big.

3. You forgot to check something that makes it export the material in the appropiate form for the importer to create the texture.

Are you the guy who always asks me to put Birdo in EKDS? :P

Btw, could you give me the nsbmd and nsbtx? I wanna check things.

Swiftie Luma Also if you are actually having the character to be static you may as well Use Birdo's Low Poly model from MKWii so it looks better and properly textured.

User 278 I've tried helping him a bunch on NSMBHD but apparently nothing works for him... Like nothing at all... weird huh?
Also, according to him, he tried using a Birdo model he found at the Models Resource.

But then at this moment...
Are you the guy who always asks me to put Birdo in EKDS? :P

I realized something was wrong...

User 281 Thanks for the help! I had forgot that the texture file name had to match the model name, and.... yes I am always asking you to add birdo to EKDS.... I know that you know how to make these extravagant animated models, and with all the trouble I was having I was ready to give up. I really just wanted to play as birdo in MKDS... I never thought ermelber would even see my comment, let alone reply to it lol.

I truly and deeply am sorry for getting on everyones nerves, especially TruelyJohn64, you have helped me so much and wish I could just restart. SORRY and THANKS for everything!

Arctus 64 I've been told that character shading requires something called Nitro Material, which can be used in Maya 2011 and 3DS Max 2011, however, I have no idea how to get to Nitro Material in Maya 2011(the tool I use), so you might have to ask someone else about how to find it.
